Wanted Vakhtang Kipiani was detained in Moscow, News Agency “RosBalt” reports. According to the News Agency, Vato Kipiani is accused of extortion. He had been announced as internationally wanted criminal.
“RosBalt” reports that unknown man came up to the police officers and said that Kipiani kidnapped his friend: on March 18, he captured Georgian citizen and locked in one of the rooms at “Marriott Grand Hotel”, extorting 780 000 Ruble, threatening with knife. On March 21, the law enforcers released 35-year-old hostage. Police arrested Kipiani at once. Kipiani faces charges for extortion and kidnapping.
News Agency reports 32-year-old Kipiani had been leading one of Georgian mafia gangs for years. Later he arrived in Ukraine. He had been deprived “Thief-in-law” status in 2009. MIA of Georgia announced Kipiani as internationally wanted criminal in 2010. His arrest had been preceded by the detentions of David Gagnidze, Kakha Misisreli and Giorgi Demetradze. They had been accused of extorting 140 000 dollars.
“Rosbalt” reports Kipiani had been instructing Demetradze and the others from Kiev. After he became internationally wanted criminal, he changed his location from Ukraine to Russia.
Russian law enforcers say the captive is the son of “authoritative” Otar Kvantarishvili, who had been killed by sniper in 1994.
